Pori Energia and Nordic Ren-Gas Collaborate on Project Development in CCU
Pori Energia Ltd and Nordic Ren-Gas Ltd (Ren-Gas) have entered into a development agreement for a project focused on carbon capture, as well as the generation of renewable e-methane, green hydrogen, and district heating in Pori.
The integrated production facility will be located on the Aittaluoto industrial site, next to Pori Energia’s bio-power plant. This location is strategically chosen for its superior infrastructure for biogenic carbon capture and the efficient conversion of carbon into a renewable fuel.
Throughout 2023, Pori Energia and Ren-Gas advanced plans for a green transition production facility in Aittaluoto, integrating carbon capture and e-methane generation. Their partnership aims to transform biogenic carbon dioxide into renewable e-methane, targeting fossil fuel replacement in transport and district heating.
The site’s selection is based on its suitability for capturing significant amounts of CO2 and leveraging renewable energy sources, notably wind. This initiative, which will employ about 15 people, contributes to the green economy by reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency in Pori. Following feasibility studies, the project moves towards environmental impact assessments, eyeing a 2027 production start.
